The Yoga of 12 Step Recovery

June AmeikaFellow yogis, June here.  In addition to teaching Gentle Yoga on Monday mornings,

I’m excited to bring this addiction/relapse prevention program to Breathe!

Y12SR – The Yoga of 12 Step Recovery

The characteristics and effects of addiction can be described as ‘separation’.  Addiction separates and disconnects us from ourselves, our loved ones, our environment and so much more.  Conversely, yoga means union and integration.

The wisdom of yoga teaches the fine art of balancing our multi-dimensional lives while living in a complex world.

The 12-step program approaches addiction at a cognitive/spiritual level and yoga asana practice adds the somatic dimension.  Combining the two creates a model that truly addresses addiction as the physical, mental and spiritual dis-ease that it is.   Y12SR classes are guided by the theme ‘The Issues Live in the Tissues”.

So what does a typical class look like?  We begin with a 45 minute 12-step based discussion circle, followed by a 45 minute themed yoga practice.   We welcome anyone dealing with their own addictive behavior or affected by the addictive behavior of others.  This powerful class will deepen any work you may be currently doing, or jump start your journey of self-discovery.

Meetings are donation based.   Please bring a yoga mat.

Meetings are held Mondays from 1130 am – 1 pm.  Come and join us!
