Fa la la la la, it’s that time of year. No not THAT time of year (yet). It’s the time of year when I pile as many things as possible onto my plate. If you are anything like me, then what you are agreeing to take on is hardly possible, and certainly not healthy, but we’ll do it all anyway. My schedule appears to be a collage of overlapping commitments, leaving very little free time. I don’t know why I do this to myself?
If this sounds familiar, then I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one. You also know then that this is causing, or very soon going to cause, a heaping of stress. Not good!
It’s taking many years of practice to feel comfortable saying ‘no’ when asked to commit to another responsibility that just isn’t feasible with what I’ve got going on. I still don’t have it down pat, but if I don’t get better at it soon then I’m either going to spontaneously combust or have to find a way to clone myself. I don’t think anybody wants that!
We all want to put our best selves out for the world to see. Truthfully, I believe that we want to give 100% of ourselves to our relationships, our passions and any other area that we feel dedicated to, including our professions and most certainly to ourselves.
Make a commitment to committing to less things, and dedicating more time and energy to yourself and savoring the free time that you have. Giving a small percentage of ourselves to a multitude of things never really allows us to feel whole and thus fulfilled by our lives. Let’s make each day more fulfilling, by filling it with less stuff and giving to what we’ve got more fully. Oh, and make sure that yoga is on the list
