Our karma peep of the month is Katrina Cantrell. We’ve been blessed to have Katrina supporting Breathe’s operations as a karma peep for nearly three years. In addition to her loyalty and dedication, she brings a kindness and gracious smile to the studio for every shift on the karma team. Here is more about Katrina…
How did you start practicing at Breathe?
We moved to Norfolk from Northern Virginia three years ago. My husband did some online research and based upon customer reviews he suggested that we give Breathe Yoga a try. I signed up for the 30-Day New Student Unlimited Pass where I had the chance to try a variety of different classes. I was hooked and the rest is history!
What was it about Breathe that made you want to join the karma crew?
Being new to the area, I really liked the strong sense of community at the studio. June (one of the teachers) and Mo (a fellow peep) encouraged me join the Karma Crew. Ann, our studio manager, interviewed me and I was impressed with her professionalism and kindness. Also being self-employed, I’m intrigued with learning different business models and appreciated the paperless/green office space and how the barter system keeps the business running seamlessly 7 days a week.
What is your favorite yoga pose, least favorite, and why?
I really enjoy hip-openers, so right now my favorite pose is pigeon. I read where hip-openers can help relieve back pain, and that tight hip flexors can pull your pelvis forward and exaggerate the curve in the lower back. When I practice pigeon it helps me feel relaxed and comfortable in my body.
My least favorite pose is bow …. Probably because it was something I could do freely when I was in my teens and twenties but now it’s more of a challenging pose.
Practicing yoga has inspired me to live in the moment and better understand the mind-body connection.
What is a fun fact about you many of us wouldn’t know?
My family had the opportunity to live overseas – 3 years in Spain and 3 years in Italy. My younger son was born in Italy.
Tell us something about peeping at Breathe.
The barter system is great and keeps me accountable to my practice. Also, I love the exchange of information – I’ve learned a ton about food, health, alternative medicine, and much more from the teachers and fellow peeps at Breathe.
